Octolift takes a few minutes to set up. Install it from the Shopify App Store, press Analyze products, and you see how AI shopping assistants read your product and what to change. There is nothing to add to your theme: the app reads your products through Shopify, inside your Shopify admin.
What do you need before you start?
- A Shopify store with at least one active product.
- An online store that is not password protected. The Shopify catalog checks look for your products the way an assistant would, and a hidden storefront has nothing to find.
- Permission to install apps on the store (the store owner, or staff with that permission).
1. Install Octolift
Install the app from the Shopify App Store. Shopify shows the permissions Octolift asks for (they are explained in Data and privacy) and may ask you to pick a plan. If you skip that, you are on the Free plan, which covers 5 products and 5 questions and is enough to see how the app works.
Octolift then opens inside your Shopify admin. On your first install you also receive a short welcome email; reply to it whenever you have a question.
2. Analyze your first product
On the Home page, press Analyze products and pick a product. The analysis page opens with three parts:
| Part | What it shows |
|---|---|
| AI visibility score | A number from 0 to 100 with a rating (Strong, Good, Weak or Critical), and the product as the Shopify catalog shows it. |
| Score breakdown | Every check, what it found, and what would earn the missing points. Some checks link straight to the place in Shopify where you fix them. |
| How you appear in the Shopify catalog | The selling points, features, specs and attributes the catalog has picked up from your listing, which is what AI assistants read. |
A scan usually takes a few seconds to half a minute. The first time you analyze a product, it counts against your plan, once and for good. See How scoring works.
3. Improve with AI
Press Improve with AI on the analysis page. Octolift writes a better description, title ideas and values for empty category fields, and suggests a category when one is missing or looks wrong. Each suggestion sits next to what you have now.
Pick the ones you want, edit them if you like, and press Save. Or take them all with Apply all suggestions, which lists what it will write and asks you to confirm. Nothing is written to your store until you do one of those. See Improve with AI.
4. Check where you rank
Open AI rankings. Press Generate questions and pick a product to get the questions shoppers are likely to ask about it, or type your own question and press Check. You see:
- where your store ranks in the Shopify catalog’s top 10, and which product comes first,
- what ChatGPT and Gemini recommend, and whether that is you.
The question is added to your list, where you can check it again later. If you ship to several countries, pick another market in the country dropdown. See AI rankings.
5. Work through your catalog
The Products page has four views:
- Analyzed: every product with a score.
- Needs work: weak or critical products with nothing applied yet, weakest first.
- Improved: products where you applied a change, with the score before and after.
- All products: the rest of your catalog.
Search by title, filter by rating, and from any row open the product’s analysis or its Improvements, the changes you applied, each with an Undo button. To take several products at once, press Analyze products and choose Select collections or All products.
